In recent days several family members have been going through intense emotional stress. Jess has been called upon what Seung Sahn calls “Kwan Swim Bosal.” Literally, “One who perceives the Cries of the World” and responds with compassionate aid. Today we must strengthen our primary point. The following thoughts from Rumi and Buddha are some centering words to start and end the day.

Today, like every other day, we wake up empty

and frightened. Don’t open the door to the study

and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.

There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.
