Viggo MortensenMy mom and I first saw Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings movies. Researching Viggo I realized he is a modern Renaissance man. Viggo Peter Mortensen, Jr. is a Danish-American actor, poet, musician, photographer, and painter.

Mr. Mortensen was born in New York City. His mother was American and his father was Danish. His biography in Wiki describes his youth living in various countries around the world, his acting career and many artistic activities.

With part of his earnings from The Lord of the Rings, Mortensen founded the Perceval Press publishing house — named for the knight from the legend of King Arthur — to help other artists by publishing works that might not find a home in more traditional publishing venues.

Another interesting Viggo fact – He never goes anywhere without his favorite tea.

The actor carries around a speciality clay container and a bamboo straw so he can enjoy the beverage as natives in Argentina drink it. He explains, “It’s mate tea from Argentina. It’s supposed to be very healthy.”

I watched Viggo interviewed on Charlie Rose and he had a mug with a bamboo straw!
